Former Arlington ISD Teacher Arrested for Improper Relationships with Students

A former Arlington Independent School District (ISD) teacher was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly having improper relationships with multiple students.

Anthony Hawkins, 25, was taken into custody by detectives with the Arlington Police Department's Crimes Against Children Unit. He is facing three counts of improper relationship between student and educator and two counts of indecency with a child sexual contact.

The investigation into Hawkins began on August 23, 2023, after Sam Houston High School administrators were told about the allegations. The school immediately contacted police and the Texas Education Agency to file a report.

Detectives interviewed Hawkins and the alleged victims. They also obtained search warrants for Hawkins' home and electronic devices.

Hawkins was booked into the Arlington City Jail on a bond of $100,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 12, 2023.

Arlington ISD said in a statement that Hawkins was a long-term substitute teacher in the district. He resigned when the investigation began. The district said it is cooperating with law enforcement and is committed to providing a safe

and secure learning environment for all students.

Hawkins is the second former Arlington ISD teacher to be arrested for sex crimes against students in recent months. In July, 2023, former teacher Michael Miles was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child. These arrests highlight the importance of reporting suspected child abuse to law enforcement.
