Mystery Drones Over New Jersey: Iranian Connection Claimed by Congressman

In an unexpected turn of events, the skies over New Jersey have become the center of a national security mystery involving unidentified drones. The situation took a dramatic turn when Representative Jeff Van Drew, a Republican congressman from New Jersey, made bold assertions on Fox News, claiming these drones are of Iranian origin.

The sightings, which started in late November 2024, have baffled both residents and officials. Large, sometimes car-sized drones have been spotted flying in coordinated patterns across multiple counties, prompting a federal investigation. The drones have been seen over sensitive locations, including President-elect Donald Trump's Bedminster golf course, military installations like Picatinny Arsenal, and near critical infrastructure.

Van Drew's claims on December 11th were stark. He stated that based on confidential sources, Iran has deployed a "mothership" off the U.S. East Coast from which these drones are being launched. "I’m going to tell you the real deal," Van Drew asserted, "Iran launched a mothership that contains these drones," emphasizing the need for immediate action, suggesting they should be shot down due to the military being on high alert. However, he did not reveal the specifics of his sources, adding a layer of skepticism to his claims.

The federal response has been cautious and somewhat vague. The FBI, leading the investigation, has admitted to having little knowledge about the drones' operators, labeling the situation "concerning." White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commented that the drones are not foreign, but this statement has been met with skepticism given the ongoing nature of the investigation. Federal lawmakers, including Senators Cory Booker and Representatives like Chris Smith, have expressed concern but have not confirmed Van Drew's allegations.

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey has stressed that there is no known threat to public safety but acknowledged the sophisticated nature of the drones, which seem to "go dark" when they sense they are being tracked. This has fueled speculation ranging from foreign espionage to covert domestic activities.

The discourse on social media platforms like X has been rife with speculation, with various posts echoing Van Drew's claims about an Iranian mothership, yet these are often based on the same initial assertions by Van Drew without additional corroborative evidence.

The situation underscores a broader conversation about national security, the capabilities of drone technology, and the transparency of government investigations. The claims have not been independently verified, and while they add urgency to the investigation, they also highlight the complexities involved in attributing such activities to specific actors without concrete evidence.

As the investigation continues, the public remains on edge, looking for answers regarding the true origin and intent of these mysterious drones. The call for a limited state of emergency by some officials reflects the gravity of the situation, but until more is known, the mystery of the skies over New Jersey persists.
