Spotify

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

Spotify has reportedly started requiring a premium subscription to view lyrics as of March 8, 2023. This change was first reported by users on social media, and Spotify has since confirmed it in a support article.

Previously, lyrics were available to all Spotify users, regardless of their subscription status. However, Spotify has now decided to make lyrics a premium feature, in order to "provide a more personalized and enhanced experience for our Premium listeners."

This change has been met with mixed reactions from users. Some users are happy to pay for the convenience of being able to see lyrics, while others are frustrated that Spotify is locking away a previously free feature.

If you are a Spotify Free user and you want to be able to see lyrics, you will need to upgrade to a Premium subscription. A Premium subscription costs $9.99 per month in the US.

It is worth noting that there are a few ways to see lyrics on Spotify without a Premium subscription. One way is to use a third-party lyrics provider, such as Musixmatch. Another way is to use a screen mirroring app to mirror your phone's screen to your TV. When you do this, you will be able to see the lyrics on your TV screen, even if you are using a Free subscription.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to upgrade to Spotify Premium is up to you. If you are a lyrics fan and you are willing to pay for the convenience, then upgrading to Premium is a good option. However, if you are not a lyrics fan or you are not willing to pay for the extra features, then you can still enjoy Spotify without a Premium subscription.
