Stacy Abrams

Stacy Abrams is an American politician, lawyer, voting rights activist and the founder of Fair Fight Action, a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting fair elections across the United States. Born on December 9, 1973 in Gulfport, Mississippi, she rose to prominence as a Democratic Party leader in Georgia, where she served as Minority Leader in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2011 to 2017.

Before entering politics, Abrams earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Political Science, Economics and Sociology) from Spelman College, a historically black college for women in Atlanta, Georgia. She then went on to obtain a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, and a law degree from Yale Law School.

Abrams’ political career began in 2006, when she was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, representing the 89th House District in Atlanta. During her time in the Georgia legislature, she championed a number of important issues such as education reform, healthcare access and tax reform. She was particularly known for her efforts to make voting more accessible for all Georgians, which earned her recognition as a national leader in voting rights advocacy.

In 2018, Abrams made history by becoming the first black woman to be a major party nominee for governor in the United States, when she ran for governor of Georgia. Despite losing the election to Brian Kemp, she received widespread recognition for her efforts to increase voter turnout and engage marginalized communities in the political process.

Since then, Abrams has continued to be a prominent voice in the fight for fair elections and voting rights, particularly in the wake of the 2020 election, when she helped lead the effort to ensure a fair and accurate count of all votes in Georgia. Through her work with Fair Fight Action, she has been working to raise awareness about the importance of protecting voting rights and ensuring that all voices are heard in the democratic process.

In addition to her political and advocacy work, Abrams is also a best-selling author, having written several novels and non-fiction books. She has been recognized for her leadership and contributions to the American political landscape, including being named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.

Stacy Abrams’ tireless efforts to promote fairness and equality in the political process have made her one of the most prominent voices in American politics today. Her work to ensure that all voices are heard and that every vote is counted is a testament to her commitment to democracy and justice. Whether in the legislature, the courtroom or in the public sphere, Stacy Abrams continues to be a leader in the fight for a more just and equitable society.
