Stanley has initiated a recall for approximately 2.6 million of its Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs due to a burn hazard. The issue stems from the mug lids, where the threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, leading to the lid detaching during use. This recall affects mugs sold from June 2016 through December 2024 in various sizes (12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz.) and colors, with product identification numbers printed on the bottom. These mugs were available at retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Target, with prices ranging from $20 to $50.

There have been 91 reports of the lids detaching globally, resulting in 38 burn injuries, with 16 incidents and 2 injuries reported in the U.S. Of those injured, 11 required medical attention. Customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled mugs and to contact Stanley for a free replacement lid.
