We are only 11 days into the new year and the WWE Universe is in complete disarray. For those that don't know in July of 2022 WWE owner Vince McMahon was "forced" into retirement amid a scandal, and with that his daughter Stephanie McMahon, Nick Khan, and son-in-law Paul Lavesque took over as co-executives and COO. Even before the scandal there was an issue with the brand dealing with talent being released, lackluster storytelling, and bad booking, with all of this becoming evident in the Royal Rumble of 2022, where it was so bad that Vince fired his son for his part of booking himself to be like this super wrestler that everyone has a hard time eliminating. Since Paul Lavesque (Tirple H) has taken over everything seems to be be rectified. Triple H hired back talent, put focus on long form story telling, booked wrestlers to do actual wrestling, he even called audibles when he took notice that the fans are invested in a particular story. Triple H went into the new year with morale in the locker room being higher than it's been in the last 10 years or so. Everything has changed drastically over the last 11 days.
Vince came back into the fold under the guise of facilitating the sell of WWE, there was even an emergency meeting where it was said that there will be no change in the staff and day to day operations. Not even a week after the meeting Stephanie McMahon resigned and the board unanimously voted for Vince to become the executive chairman and Nick Khan to be the CEO. That decision was made in the evening of January 10th, and as I'm writing today at 8:30A.M. of January 11th there are also rumors that Vince McMahon has sold WWE to Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund which would turn WWE back into a private business and take WWE out of the stock exchange.
With everything going on at the beginning of the new year, it's safe to say that WWE is on a long journey that could possibly lead to despair for the brand. What do you think is going to happen with WWE this year? Put it in the comments, I look forward to seeing you there.
